Athenagoras of Athens

quotes from Athenagoras of Athens:→

Athenagoras of Athens was a Father of the Church, an Ante-Nicene Christian apologist who lived during the second half of the 2nd century.  He authored A Plea for the Christians (also known as Supplication for the Christians) and On the Resurrection of the Dead.

Quotes & Excerpts:

“I have sufficiently demonstrated that we are not atheists, since we acknowledge one God, unbegotten, eternal, invisible.
who is known only by understanding and reason..
We recognize also the Son of God, but we do not conceive of either God the Father or the Son as the pagan poets do, who, in their myth-making, represent the gods as no better than men.
The Son of God is the Word of the Father, in both thought and actuality.
By Him and through Him all things were made, the Father and the Son being one.
-Supplication for the Christians 10:1 (Written in 177 A.D.)

“What man of sound mind, then, while such is our character, accuse us of being murderers?..
When we say that women who use drugs to bring on abortion commit murder, and will have to give an account to God for the abortion, on what principle then would we commit murder?
For it does not belong to the same person to regard the very fetus in the womb as a created being, and therefore an object of God’s care, and then, when it has passed into life, to kill it.”
