The Biblical Canon of
St. Catherine's Monastery
The Canon of St. Catherine’s Monastery was found in a manuscript titled Syriac MS 10, which was found in St Catherine’s Monastery on the Sinai Peninsula and dates to the 8th or 9th century. The canon list itself is believed to date sometime between 350 and 400. Along with the canon list, the manuscript also contains homilies from Ambrose of Milan, Jacob of Serug, Theophilus of Alexandria, John Chrysostom, Cyril of Alexandria in others. The original language of the list was Syriac. The Old Testament canon contains both protocanonical and deuterocanonical books. The New Testament list omits the Catholic Epistles and Revelation.
